mp3 / recording...

i've got this new computer (merry christmas) i've had my digital 8 track...can anyone tell me how to connect the 8 track to the computer to record straight onto the computer...i've got all these programs to make cd's and editing things and i have no idea what to do with them...and how do i convert to mp3 format - i'm lost!! rock on and thank god for this sight!!! -andrea

what kind of digital 8 track do you own? what types of programs are you using?
 
well as far as piping tunes from the recorder to the computer goes..that depends on both machines. I imagine you have a "stock" sound card at this point... nothing fancy. So the input options are limited, it has a stereo line in and a mic in. Ignor the mic in and use the Line.
As for the actual conversion you need some form of a decoder. A decoder program (theres hundreds) will convert MP3's to Wav format. Whereas an Encoder does the opposite, it converts wavs to MP3's.
Head over to http://www.hitsquad.com and look for MP3 programs. theres heaps to pick from. read the descriptions to see what exactly you are looking for.
