Here is a user review of a TSR-8. Thoughts?

Is Tascam customer service REALLY that bad?

Also, would it really make a difference if I mounted the tape machine horizontally? (I'm thinkin', gravity would come into play and make a higher risk for an uneven packing on the reel, but what do I know?)

Also, how much more difficult is it to calibrate it with the 2-head design? (I suppose all you'd have trouble with is adjusting the record level and record bias, as this would involve repeated rewinding and playing back of your guesstimate adjustments...)

Thanks!

Well as far as tascam service I have ordered parts 3 times Some belts, pinch roller and a 2 manuals and never had any problems with doing that. I just called on the phone told them what I wanted and that was it. In a few days I had what I ordered.
As far as problems with the machine for how you sit it lay it on its back if you feel better about it and dont worry about it.
The tsr8 was the last 8 track made by tascam and with all of the recorders they made in the last 30 years or so you would think that they got it right by time they got to the tsr8. I would go for it if you can find a nice unit and not
worry about the small stuff like bias. Its not like it has to be done all the time. Also on the recording web site he mentioned its not made for the Road. Well no shit none of them are. At the time the tsr8 came out it was pretty typical of all electronics, everything got smaller and lighter as technolagy advanced, If it was in a good way I dont know.
Dont sweat the small stuff.
