Hello all,

I'm sort of a 'noob' when it comes to this stuff. I'm currently saving up for a mixer so I only have 2 channels (two pre-amps) to work with. I'm wanting to mic my 4 piece with a single over head and a kick mic. I already have a matched set of MC012s, but soon I'll be in need of another mic so I'm thinking about getting a semi budget LDC. I'm not getting the results I would like to have out of a single MC012, so I'm wondering, would a LDC be more appropriate to do the job of a mono overhead? Thanks.

it could be a little beefier depending on the mic...but the MC012 is a swell mic without a huge amount of 'zing' on top unlike a lot of other SDC's. i find that attribute makes it a pretty versatile tool...

before you buy - what don't you like about your results? it could be remedied by just using it/ setting it up/ setting the drums up differently…I've used a single MC012 and a D112 thru a mackie to get excellent results.

While an 012 isn't the first mic I reach for when doing overheads, it actually is beefier/thicker than many SDCs out there. I've gotten very good results with a single 012 and an omni cap.
