I thought dumping $500 dollars on a couple speakers was just dumb. I didn't believe the hype. I just used my home stereo. It never dawned on me that the monitors may be the reason my mixes sounded like junk. It wasn't until my buddy let me try his KRK Rokit 5's with the KRK 10 sub that I realized how key monitors were. In fact, next to a decent signal chain, they were absolutely imperative to get a decent mix. Although I am still not an advocate of the $2000 a pair and up types like Adam (I am sure that day is coming), monitors will always be one of the first things I look at when i upgrade. Currently, I use the KRK Rokit 8's. Not the best by a long shot but I can really get a good mix going. I have to admit though, I have been mixing here in Iraq with nothing more than a pair of HD-280's and a cheap 2.1 computer monitor system. I have had pretty ok results. That is all from extensive A/B comparisons and knowing where the HD280's lack (low-end).

Ok, I have just bought into all the stuff on the adam a7 power monitors which if you you want to find bad reviews these days its easy for these they were almost impossible to find even then, minor quibbles. Ok, whats my quibble?
Every time i mix on these and it sounds fairly balanced not bass heavy(with computer), quite light actually, I then try the recording out on my hi fi system and what I get is quite different. My system is very good quality and uses b&w 604s speakers (which are a bit bass heavy i find). However match my recordings done with the adam's up to any industry standard, you will find mine are silly, bass mud fever!!!
Now before anyone crits the recordings, yeah ok I am no mutt lang, however I do know simple balance( i am a semi pro conductor/musical director). And dont try to tell me about bass woofers, i have spent enough already for a home studio. Just wish i had bought something which were more realistic. Isnt there another way to help with what i've got though, so that the recordings i mix can be more realistic as i mix?

I have had Adam A7 for 2 yars, know I have Adam A33 - I was very satisfied with the A7 to - but You know how it go's Man wants more... Back to your problem. As a previus member mentioned, try backwards the proces. However - I have an idea for you - and dont be mad if Im wrong and You are way beond this standard problem - then I say - sorry. But... It sounds like you have trouble around the 80-120hz (separate the bass and the kick one on 90 and the other on 120) then try to lower 300 - 450 hz a bit (thats frome 3-6db) This is ofcourse in the mix proces. Best of luck to you.

Probably took me about a year to actually get monitors and yes, it was well worth it. That's when some real listening can start to take place.

But act now, get monitors AND room treatment or else youll be asking the same question in another poll a year and a half from now.

"How Long until you got Room Treatment"

A. My room already had egg crates so I didn't need any
B. I put blankets up right when I started
C. Took me a few years to understand diffusers absorbers and bass traps then I bought into it.
D. I got that shit right when I started doing my first mixes cause I knew it was going to make everything about my recordings better.

I'm really into the Samson Resolv 80as.
you can also get the 120 matching sub.

Started and still use Somson Resolvl's with sub then finally took the plung to get Dynaudio BM15a. And yes, Massive Master said it perfectly. I would have just did the Dyns if I had the resources and knowledge then.

Ha Ha Haa, he thought video monitors instead of studio monitors.
