monitor stands

Hi, my tascam us1800 arrived today and I rearranged my desk. Before now I didn't have any stands for my studio monitors but after rearranging I ended up using some polystyrene from the tascam box as stands. My thought is that they might actually do the job (stopping bad vibrations and making them more level with my ears), so any comments?
 
Polystyrene squeaks! It's also dense enough that sound could be transferred through it. I guess if it was a good sound insulator, more people would use it.
 
I used to put my mackies on polystyrene, purely because I had nothing better to use and I needed the extra height.

I'm sure it's not ideal for isolation, maybe it's even ill-advised, but I certainly found it cut down on bass travelling through my bench.

IDK. I guess it's better than nothing.

If it even slightly cuts down on bass then thats cool, and because it gives them more height then I'd say it would be better than nothing, well, when I've got my tascam fully connected then I can find out for myself :)
 
Does it mean that if your monitors are still not high enough that you'll have to purchase yet an other Tascam us1800? :facepalm:

fortunately they are just fine ;) Although if they were still a little low I could lower my swivel chair slightly

:laughings: i laughed so hard i spat tea over my lap!

tbf, until yesterday i had my monitors on precariously stacked cd cases and some foam from the inside of some old mic carry cases. it was mainly to get the speakers up to an appropriate height. Did it do anything to help with sound travelling to my desk; probably not but i just got used to how they sounded. I then replaced my monitors and figured i should probably get some proper stands; totally worth it :)

it's ok, i made more tea and drank the whole cup without spilling a drop. As an englishman, the spilling or wastage of tea is an act punishable by law, hence why we use saucers to catch any spillage as tea in the saucer is not seen as wastage as it can still be drunk. Sometimes i think our laws may be too harsh but one must respect the rules if one wishes to do ones best by the queen :p

I can confirm that all this is very true. Coffee doesnt matter as much though, I think it's more of an american thing maybe?

And olli, i was thinking more about your monitor stand thing whilst making another cup of delicious tea. For £25 (depending on the size of your monitors) you can pick up the alctron monitor pads from the bay. i might be wrong but i'm pretty sure it's just the same foam (or whatever it is) in some of the other pads just before alctron send stuff off to get rebranded. That's less than a weeks EMA and way more fun than books or food :D
