Tascam 22 2 Reel to Reel Completely Refurbished Direct Head Out Line Out | eBay

Tascam 22-2 Reel To Reel - Completely refurbished. Direct Head out & Line out

Time left: 6d 08h (Jul 01, 2014 19:04:08 PDT)

Starting bid: US $249.00 [ 0 bids ]

Tascam 22-2 professional reel to reel 2 track stereo, 1/4" tape, 2 speeds: 7 1/2 ips and 3 3/4 ips.

Direct reproduce (playback) head output: This deck has a feature that no other deck has! In addition to the normal line output, there is a switchable direct connection from the playback head to a pre-amp or phono input of a receiver! This eliminates all the distortion and the "solid state sound" of the deck, bypassing the decks electronics. The difference is phenomenal! It's like removing a veil in front of your eyes, so now everything is super sharp, clear and three dimensional. The sound stage of the music is so detailed, you can almost point to the location of each instrument and vocalist.

Now you can safely record your treasured vinyls and it will retain all the warmth, sonic fidelity and texture of your LP's when playing them back using DIRECT HEAD output. You can actually AB test and hear the amazing difference as you play a tape, by flipping between the NORMAL LINE and HEAD DIRECT switch and at the same time switching between TAPE MONITOR and INPUT. You didn't realize how bad the sound of the solid state electronics was until you compare it to a direct output of the tape deck head.

You must have a pre-amp or receiver with either a tape head input or phono input. By simply flipping the white switch above the tape counter, you can select the normal output or the direct head output.

In addition to this one of a kind feature found only on this deck which was installed by an audio expert in electronics for over 50 years (yes, 50!) this deck was completely restored and aligned to it's original factory specs.

Mechanism was completely overhauled, including:
* All moving mechanical parts were removed and cleaned of old dried up grease and re-lubricated.
* A new capstan belt was installed.
* Capstan motor was taken apart and lubricated, the capstan rotor shaft was hand polished.
* Supply and pick up reel motors were lubricated.
* Supply and takeup reel tables were depth aligned so it will spool to the center of the takeup reel, and tape won't rub on either the front or the back of the reel flanges.
* Reel brakes were precision tension adjusted and balanced to allow to stop a full reel of tape in about a second without stretching or breaking tape.
* Brand new rubber pinch roller.
* All heads demagnetized.

Electronics and heads were aligned using two MRL (Magnetic Reference Lab) test tapes, one for 7.5ips and another tape for 3 3/4ips using a Textronix scope, RMS A/C voltmeter, digital frequency counter and an Audio Function Generator. All controls and switches were cleaned with "DeoxIT".

The deck has some minor, almost invisible scratches on it. Please review the pictures and click on the image to see the closeup.
