i love negative rep
here's a big old shoot out for ye'
hope it helps
disclaimer
this is in no way meant to prove that i can...
1)sing
2)play guitar
3)get a good sound out of a peavey
because i can't, it's just to hopefully showcase some of the differences between the mic's.

i used a digimax lt for a pre on all 4 mic's because it's the only pre i have 4 of
you should note that it does add some crappy crap to the top end of everything it touches, but i didn't think any combo of my other pre's would be fair.

page is up

here is a pic of the way i mic'd the cab (cause it looks neat)
mic's about 3.5 ft from cab

for those of you curious

fake or not? i don't know but the ml 2500 is WELL worth 100$

I liked the 4033 best on everything. Thanks for going through the trouble.

...what stands out most to me is how dull and lifeless both the Oktavas sound on vocals...other than that the AT seems the most versatile and usable...was that an NT2 or NT2A you used?...if it was a 2A, what pattern was it set on?...

2a on cardioid.
(to match the other mics)

the 2a is my personal fave on this shoot-out, more colored than the 4033, but in a genrally pleasing way.

i know the 319 didn't shine in this shoot out, but make no mistake it's a mic well worth owning.

for what i paid, i'm personally more than pleased with the 2500
it has a "woody" mid charcter that i'm sure will come in handy at some point.

I thought the 2500 handled the "essess" better than the rest of the pack.

...Frankly, I would have expected more from the NT2A...I have a K2 that I'm really pleased with and I believe they share the same capsule design...the NT2000 (also with the newer capsule) has that "variable" pattern feature that seems interesting...I find that tuning the K2 about 1 or 2 clicks (actually "markers" as the control is 100% variable without click-stops) towards "omni" in the "cardioid" mode gives a bit more depth to vocals (rather than the dead on "cardioid" position)...but all in all, the newer Rodes with this capsule have been garnering pretty positive reviews and feedback on the BBs...

you may be giving the source more credit than it's due.

yes, if you put the nt2a on fig8 it has a brighter, more "up front" sound (sometimes is very good)
but i suspect you like your mic's brighter than i do.

all of the mic's would have been brighter had i been closer to them, as it was i was about 12 inches out (vox)

...if the Oktavas are the standard, than I definately like my mics "brighter"...if I want that "warmer" more lush sound, I turn to my ribbon mic...less bright but very "fat" sounding...a nice change from the Chinese/Australian "sizzle"...
