Has anyone received the new TapeOp yet. (Issue #43 September/October 2004)

Mine has not arrived yet.

I'll go with Sound on Sound, in spite of the ridiculous cost. If you don't want to buy it check out their website.

Is there a recommended article? I've never read anything in Sound on Sound that I found to be well written or informative... a whole lot of advertiser fellatio but not a whole lot of good information.

YMMV.

I must be the only one here who picks up Future Music. A pretty good publication. Not always as in depth as I would like, but I find the reviews unbiased, and the articles straight to the point.
Other favs: Mix, Sound On Sound, Music Tech, and ocassionally Computer Music (More geared towards beginners, but often feature some great freeware, and they usually have nice Special Issues).

Sound on Sound totally sucks! My wife picked up a copy last week, and she said: "What's that? A product catalog?". She was right on: nothing but plain boring gear review. No journalism what so ever. There's absolutly nothing to learn from that magazine (except specs of gear), and its very pricy in the US.

I actually enjoy reading EQ a lot lately, and I've even subscribed ($14/year only). Its a nice mix between interviews & featuring artists and how they made an album.

Tape Op is interesting & fun to read, but the style of journalism is very amateurish IMHO. I'm also rather upset that I have to spend $4.- for each issue coz they NEVER add my name to the list of subscribers, no matter how many emails I drop them! *grrrrrrrrr*

MIX is way too much "gossip". I'm not interested at all who was appointed the new CEO or XYZ Studios, and I never got interested in the obituaries either. Its also a lot of info on "live sound" which for me, as a semi-studio owner, is not interesting.

Future Music is a magazine which for me, as an electronic music producer, is great to read! I also read REMIX regularly.

I really like Sound on SOund.

I know it has quit a lot advertisements in it, but I still think there is some pretty good info, like the studio SOS series for example.

i like sound on sound for the revieuws,
tape op rocks, just TOO BAD THEY DONT SEND IT OVER TO EUROPE !
so an american friend collects the mags for me and sends them over in bulk for me :)
i read a bunch of belgian, french and uk magazines (exept SOS,,,thats nice in my opinion) , and GOD do they totally suck compared with the magazines mentioned in the posts above...

aren't there a bunch of other free magazines out there?
i receive "meet music magazine" every month, kinda for free,
it sucks, but its fun to read when i'm doing my dayly train-travalling
