Hi all,

I have an old Sony Walkman Pro cassette player that I use for recording inspired moments when I am brainstorming new songs. I also am scouting around for a good deal on an MR-8. Neither of these units has a self-contained playback device so I was thinking of buying a mini powered speaker cab that could be plugged into the headphone out. It should be battery powered and fairly compact so I can just stuff it in a case with either recorder. I am sure someone makes these. Any recommendations?

If you're into diy projects, how about a set of PC speakers? Find a pair with 3" drivers. Replace the stock drivers with Fostex full range drivers. Then just replace the AC adaptor with the appropriate batteries.

Those will sound pretty nice, I did that with my PC speakers once. Total cost should be about $70.

Some PC speakers also run on batteries.

I got a decent pair of Altec Lansing PC speakers for $10 at a flea market.
