why would one midi controller be more expensive than another? i am wondering if i should spend more on one that is supposed to be 'better' if all it does is send the exact same note into whatever sampler i have. are they all the same outside of maybe the number of keys? or what effects the price difference?

Construction is one factor.

Action is another.

Amount of onboard controls like knobs and sliders is still another.

Number of keys.

Pitch and mod wheels.

Assignable Pitch and mod wheels.

How it is powered, i.e., AC, AC/Battery, Battery, USB, MIDI, USB/MIDI.

Display.

Programmability.

Patch chaining.

Splitability.

Aftertouch.

There's tons of varients.
