I know im going to get laughed at for this, but i bought a matched pair of the behringer c-2 small diaphram condenser mics just to play with and try to learn to record stereo things. they were 59$ for the pair so I knew they weren't that good. I have been getting a decent sound out of them for the acoustic but they don't seem to have the "hotness" that some of my other mics have. I have to set the gain up higher and it introduces some noise. does anybody have any experience with these at all? I just tried to record my guitar amp with them compared to my EV cobalt CO4 instrument mic and the Co4 won handsdown but I also need to do it with them placed at the exact same place as I kept the condesner back 4-5 inches to keep from killing it. it just didnt seam to have any higher frequencies.

Also anybody ever use the EV Co4 instrument mic. it seems to be pretty good from what I can tell for an 89$ mic.

Behri C2s

Hi,

I had a pair of Behri's and my son needed some mics so I tested them out on acoustic guitar. They weren't bad. I made some listenable recordings with them. So I gave them to him.

Don't think you need to evaluate mics by putting them in the same place. Different mics sound different placed differently. Ideally each mic should be placed optimally when comparing them. In practice optimal placement is subjective and not necessarily easy to find but just because your EV sounds best close don't think the same should be true of the behris.

Yes they're cheap condensors. Yes they're made by Behringer. Still you should be able to use them to make good stereo recordings. Maybe not all sources. The same can be said of any mics.

Thanks,

I understand that. I actually tried them in several locations before coming to the conclusion that they were dead sounding. I don't think I want to get rid of them I mean a stereo pair to learn with for 60$s isnt bad. They are just missing any of the high end. I tried them farther away from the amp and closer and at several angles and such. before I compared them to the EV Co4 i thought they were pretty good. I am actually liking the Co4 more and more. When i recorded the acoustic using the MXL 906 that I have it came out sounding a little digital and cold but overall pretty good. the c-2s sounded ok but I had to raise the gain considerably and it was getting some noise and I had to EQ them pretty significantly to get them to have some highs but once I did that they sounded alright. I am sure I will use them again for something..
