mic hookup help

I know this is a newby question but I can't figure out how to hook up a good mic through my soundcard. I am using a simple little pc mic but I want to use my sm-57 to mic my guitar amp. What kind of hookups do I need ? And if there is a web page devoted to such new questions please let me know.
 
You probably don't want to spend more money, but you should get yourself a small mic pre (ART makes some among others) to connect your mic up to, then into the line-in on your soundcard.

The mic pres built-in to soundcards, just like the mics they are intended to be used with, are essentially useless.

I'm looking into a mic preamp now. Thanks for responding. The software part of home recording has always been a lot easier for me than the hardware part.
