Guys, I was looking at maybe picking up a mesa rectoverb or budda superdrive off ebay in US, but I'm in UK. Does anyone know if these amps will need a transformer?

I saw a post saying that mesa are switchable by internal jumper, but I've just called Mesa and they say that's not true for the rectoverb, and that I'd need a new transformer which will cost several hundred pounds... are they really that expensive?!

Does anyone know if that's true? (the Mesa guy sounded like he just wanted me to get a Mesa from a UK distributor so I dont know if I can trust him...)

if I need a transformer, anything to watch out for?

thanks for the help :)

You should be able to Find a 240v to 120v Converter for pretty cheap (Under $50) as I have seen a Lot of them on e-bay.....

You can also look for a 240v to 120v transformer but you have to make sure that it outputs enough Current to power your amp.....

The transformers in many amps are Dual Primary so they can be wired to work on 120v or 240v by simply wireing the Primaries in series but this would entail opening up the amp and rewireing the Transformer.....

It would probably be easier to get a 240v to 120v Converter.....

Cheers

hi, thanks for the reply.

what's the difference between a transformer and a converter? do i need a converter of sufficient power rating or does that only apply to transformers?

also, will either option affect the sound adversely?

thanks man,

sache
