Slowing becoming un-noob.
So I'm looking into buying a Mesa Boogie...I've heard amazing things...

I'm not into spending a lot of money, I'd buy used.

What are the usual prices for these? I'm looking for a Mesa Boogie head, preferably a Rectifier head, for under $1000. Also, a combo amp would be fine also, my real limit in terms of money is 850-900 if I can help it.
Is that a good price to look for? Or like yeah.

Anyone have any experience with Mesa Boogie? I'm going to get to a guitar center to make sure I'd like one of course, but yeah..

What are prices that are decently priced for a used one?

Anything you have to say is awesome.

Thanks a lot!

P.S. I play new-age punk, I guess I would call it...but I like a good heavy tone. Nothing thin, I want something thick and rich and such. So a metal tone more or less.

Based on your budget I'd say either a Single Rectifier or a Mark III

Have you considered a 5150?

i have a dc-5 (50watt). You can get them for 600-700. I've seen the 100 watt version dc-10 for less than a grand. They are great amps. I choose them over a rectifier or any of the newer boogie amps any day of the week. Ii've even seen Mark IV;s around a grand. THose amps rock

Alright, I'll keep looking around. I haven't seen a Single Rectifier, so yeah. I'm mainly just looking for Mesa Boogie, any amp model of theirs I believe would do me just fine, I hope at least.

I'll look into those ones though, thanks.

Alright, yeah, I'll look into those dc-5...are they combo amps? Or heads? Just wondering. Thanks. I'll definitely look for them.

Get one of the older Dual Rect. You won't be sorry. Even the newer ones aren't bad. I had voodoo amps mod mine. I'm going back in a month or so and get a better output transformer put in. There's a bunch on Ebay.

.

BOTH COMBO AND HEAD VERSIONS

Another vote for the DC series amps. I have a DC3 and it's killer. It has tone suitable for everything from chimey/reverby cleans to straight up hard rock. About the only thing it won't do is the buzzsaw rectumfrier sound, which I actually need sometimes.

ive had an ebay mesa boogie search bookmarked for a while now and check it pretty much daily. almost everything they make seems to bring in at least a grand, save for the studio +22 kinda stuff...the lower powered, lower featured blues amps.

you could definitely get lucky though. combos could go for 700 maybe. but ya generally everything for the past little while was about 1000 american. there was a big spike in amps available and many at awesome prices on ebay a couple months ago. the markets still pretty good right now....
heres
a cheap dc 3 combo with a grate buy it now price!

heres whats available on ebay right now.

hope this helps.

Alright, yeah, thanks. would that be enough wattage for small gigging? 35 watts?

Thanks.

Just checked out some reviews for that Dc-3 amp..seems like the one for me..

Anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks!

If'n you're talking about volume? I don't think Mesa makes anything that isn't loud enough for "small gigging". Wattage does not necessarily equate to loudness.

Yeah, I always figure that wattage does more or less, or it is at least the best way I can tell how loud an amp will be from just reading about an amp. But yeah. From what I've read on the internet, the dc-3 gets Plenty loud.

+1 for the Single Rectifier Solo 50 Head.

I sleep with mine.

That's plenty of power. I own a dc3 head and run it thru a 4x12 Marshall cab with V30's and it fucking screams. The master volume rarely exceeds "3", even live it doesn't get cranked much higher than that. I also rent out my AC30 to bands for gigs and nobody has ever complained about lack of volume. I'd highly recommend the dc3 if you can find a good one.

Yet another Mesa user...

My two cents...

I have a Mesa Boogie Mk III.
I have never been so completely satisfied during years of live performances with any other amplifier. It's an amazing amplifier, and worth the investment if you can pony up the fundage. Even worth saving up for, believe me.

There are other great amplifiers out there, at a lesser cost. For what I do, a Fender Hot Rod Deville or Peavey Classic 50 2 x 12 would suffice, and at a much lesser cost.
