okay okay okay...still no akai dsp 16..they're "looking in to it"..

i'm looking at cd burners...most stand alone "audio" looking type units have digital coax inputs which i imagine would suit me well for recording the audio...BUT...do i need the SCSI input in order to "back up" my digital data???

please show mercy on my ignorant soul.

Look, I'm just as ignorant as you are about this, but while you're waiting for an informed answer, I'll hazard a guess that the answer is 'no'. I don't think SCSI's necessary for anything, least of all backing up data on CDRs or CDRWs.

By the way, you mention standalone CD burners and 'recording audio' in the same breath. CD burners don't record anything, far as I know, they just burn CDs.

If CD burners don't record audio, then what have I been doing all this time?

you've obviously been burning audio.

(and i think i just burned my last brain cell)

Dobro!
Well bust my Monkey Method.
Standalone burners come in two flavors. Audio only units like my TASCAM CDRW-5000 and stuff like is sold by Glyph as external CDRWs, usually with a SCSI interface. The latter are exactly the same as the internal CDRWs but come with a case. So they can do data AND audio if plugged into the right source. I like the internal version better for this purpose; takes up less room and costs less.
