MD421 Vs. NT1 (for toms)

I was wondering if the difference was considerable between the NT1 and the MD421 when miking toms (and overall for that matter). I hear the MD421 combined with a sm57 on a guitar cab sounds great! What do you all think?

The two mics sound totally different... and out of the two I'd take the MD421 for toms.

I agree with that, I have a MD421 but I'm thinking of either purchasing another one or getting a pair of NT1s. Overall, would the NT1s be useful at all? or am I better of having a pair of MD421s?

Yes it's a useful mic... I like the NT1 on some vocals, but IMO the MD421 is a more versatile mic and I use the MD421 more than the NT1 (but I have other LDC mics too). For example... the MD421 is one of my favorite kick drum, bass amp, and guitar amp mics... it's also nice on sax and etc. Maybe get another MD421 and a LDC, or a pair of SDC mics if you don't already have some.

What do you think of the AKG C12? I saw some folks use it as an overhead. I'm curretly using a pair of Oktava MK012s for overheads. I also need to pick up a good vocal mic around the $1,000 range. Do tubes make a difference on vocals

I don't own an AKG C12. And I'm not sure what you mean by "Do tubes make a difference on vocals"?
