Maybe getting Fostex MR-8- help with drum, bass ideas

I'm considering getting a fostex mr-8 to do some recording for fun. I mostly will just do acoustic guitar and vocals, with some piano thrown in.

However, I'd love to be able to somehow add in drum and bass lines (without actually playing drums or bass). I notice that the mr-8 doesn't do either of those, so how could it be accomplished.

I do have a PC.

I'm not looking to spend alot, as this is essentially recording just for personal use. Will the MR-8 be a good choice for me?

Thanks

Adam

Looks like you'll have to go MIDI with the PC. A lot of soundcards support MIDI and software usually comes with the card. All you need next is a controller. I just bought a cheap one to try out from zzounds.com. I paid about $80 for it. I'll let you know how it goes.

You can use Jammerpro , Band in a box, Etc. and just use your out on your soundcard to your in on your Fostex. Real simple with no midi involved if you do the drums and bass first and just follow along with it.. Jammerpro is better in my opinion but more expensive.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at Jammerpro right now, and it seems very cool.

Do I need any special soundcard to export the tracks from JammerPro to the Fostex, or will my Soundblaster do fine?

Thanks :)

The soundblaster will work fine with either Jammerpro Or Band in a Box. The newer Band in a Box looks a lot better than the old versions.
This is the Link to Download the demo of Jammerpro.

The Flashcards are expensive but I guess it all comes down to how much you plan on using it. Maybe someone else may have some Insight on a different unit.

I was thinking about that as I eagerly await the fat man's arrival.(gettin MR-8 for x-mas) I figgered I would just transfer to hard drive and then reformat the flash card. I dunno..gotta wait to see how things work out.

i find it works well w/ a pc. actually, i think mr8 users need a pc to get much out of it.

i transfer to pc, then you just delete song or songs to make room. after transferring to pc. and you can put a song back into mr8 and then remix and recreate .wav file.
