I went to mars to look at the mxl v-67 mic. They had a V-63, which is not listed at the marshall web site. What is the difference in these two mics?
Thanks,
Larry
The important difference is that the V67 is a little smother sounding in the sibilance range with less harsh sizzle. The V67 has a transformer coupled output while the V63 has a transformerless transistor balanced output. You will notice that the V67 has a different shaped wind screen which also helps contribute to a smoother high end. I initially bought the V63 & at 1st thought "hey not bad for the money" but after one day became annoyed with the harshness & excessive sizzling sibilance & replaced it with the V67. Before doing so I called Marshal product support & inquired as to why the published spec sheets with freq response plot for the V63, V67 & MXL1006-P are all identical & was told that the V63 & MXL1006-P are the exact same mic only with different color case. He explained that the V67 is a much different & superior mic & assured me that it in particular would be smoother in the sibilance area with not so much of the high end sizzle that I expressed a dislike for, while still being out front bright & present. He was right.
