Do any of you have experience with these monitors?

Im looking into them, plus others. But so far, I like this pair.

If anybody can help, Im using them for common speakers & my music production in the genre of hip-hop.

Yes I have listened to the new SP-5B monitors by M-Audio...they are rather small....not bad audio quality/response, etc....their bigger cousin the SP-8B does sound better though....

I wasn't really impressed myself.....and after testing a load of monitors (side by side) I went with the Yorkville YSM-1P's which I think are really great for the price of $740 Cdn ($450 USD)....and they are designed & made right here in Toronto - for a change :-)

Check em out...

No

I was looking into these, but when I went to guitar center they looked like mini-monitors. Not enuf bass response for R&B, Hip-hop. I just got a pair of event PS6, and I cant complain at all...very clear, pretty good bass response.... I like the PS series and KRK's alot....

Hey Kev... where was it again you said those Yorkville's are made? :D

They are actually designed and built in Pickering Ontario...which is just outside Toronto....

Oh, cool! I wasn't sure i remembered correctly from the eleventy-seven other times you said it recently in various threads...I've had Canadian Bacon before, but this is my first time with Canadian Spam! :p

Hey Doggie....

there's nuffink wrong with a bit of Canadian SPAM mate :-)

actually, to be perfectly honest I never intended on buying Canadian made monitors at all....when I started looking I checked out everyone else before the Yorkies...thinking that I would probably buy the Behringers, Studiophile 8B's or Tannoys as I wanted to keep it under $1000 Cdn....but when I actually 'listened' to my options....and someone said "why don't ya give the YSM-1P's a try and see what ya think? " I DID, and soon realized that they sound much better than anything else in that price range.

The made in Toronto bit , is just an added bonus - I guess :-)

KEV

so does that mean if I live in Canada I get a special discount ?:D

Hey badass,

NO, actually the Yorkies cost less in the States than here in Canada.. My bro in Fla also bought a set, and he paid almost $100 Cdn (when ya figure in the excahnge rate) less for his YSM-1P's than I did here in Toronto.

I told Yorkville that, and they said - US retailers sell for less than our own Long & Mquade stores, which BTW now own Yorkville.

I said - what a BUMMER, so much for NAFTA :-(

Such is LIFE!!!!!!

I have the them and like them alot. They are very clean sounding. If you are doing Hip Hop or low end type of music I would not reccomend them however as they are light in the low end. I have learned to mix around this and my stuff is more pop, acoustic type music.

They are not a waste of money and make a great first time upgrade from stereo or computer speakers to real monitors. If you have some time, A/B them against others. Also if you have more money check out the new SP-8s or others.

ya i might take the plunge with these anyways, just cause i need money for sooooooo many other things. Fucking free trade man, goddamn taxes suck here too, now that I actually pay them fucking right im gonna bitch. hehe.
