im having trouble with a les paul knock off of mine.

the switch broke a while ago, and it now has a real gibson switch on it.

the problem is this:

when its up (rhythm) is feels ok. a little wiggly but fine

when its in the middle, its really loose and can pushed almost all the way over to the side.

the treble position is hard to explain. if i flick it down, it stays on both pickups. so if i want just treble, i have to turn the rhythm almost all the way down.

to get just treble, i have to push it to the left (facing down at the guitar as if you were playing it) back into position (straight down) other wise it stays down and to the right a little and still the rhythm pickup is on.

i popped it open the other night, to see what the deal was. i was thinking maybe a short but no the wiring is fine. it seems to be a mechanical problem. i put it back in an it worked perfect! i didnt do anything to it but i mustve done something when i was handling it.

tonight it fucked up again. the only thing i can see wrong is what i think is like the "axle" that the shaft is on. on one side, it sticks out a bit, but on the other side its pushed back in. i dont know if its supposed to be so far out on the one side or if its supposed to be even on both or what. it looks like it may be a very small allen or hex screw. how can i fix this so its nice and tight and doesnt wiggle or stick off to the side?

any help? thanks.

That's just the axle that the ball part of the switch pivots on, it's not an adjustment.

When the ball gets worn to the point where there is slop around the axle and/or slop around the ball itself, the switch will do as you describe. Time to replace the switch.
