Hi all,

Some of you may remember I had an akai mg614 in need of repairs a while back.

I decided it was above my head so I left it in for a quote.

I was told it'd be about £100 as the whole tape deck needs replaced.

Now, I didn't pay that, I have it back broke, but I'm now wandering where the repair place thought they were gona get an old akai tape deck from.

BLM-300 is printed on the back of the tape deck itself, and from what i can find out (very little), it was used in the mg614 and the gx52 which was also sold as mistubishi m-t7100.

I've been on with dave at vst and he says they don't have one.
He also reckons that if he doesn't have it, no one does so...

Anyone have any info about this? Or does anyone own a gx52 to confirm my findings?
If it's the same part, I'm sure i could pick up a gx52 at some point on ebay.

I'd totally use this thing if it worked, but sadly if it doesn't, It's not worth trying to sell and I think it would rot away in an attic somewhere.
Thanks guys.

Phoned a gx52 seller on ebay who has confirmed that the tape deck is the same.
He couldn't take a pic for some reason though, but described it in great detail.

I've got about three hours if anyone is able to confirm or challenge this info,

Thanks.

Well, incase anyone's interested, it seems like the fault was hall effect sensors.

I sourced a mechablock from a chap on another forum, and used it to replace the capstan motor circuit board.

Cost me £20! Would you believe a local store wanted £140?!?!

Everything's tip top now

Cool. You should be able to replace the hall sensor and fix the capstan board as a spare.

Yeah, i was kinda thinking of doing that.

Thanks :)

All these learning curves are great. Just a shame they're all on outdated gear. :P

Really looking forward to doing some porta stylie recordings now, if I manage to get the heads realigned.
