I'm looking for a general just above entry level/mid level microphone (just a regular mic) made from the late '70s or the early '80s. pretty much something along the lines of what a band like Black Flag, Minor Threat, Discharge, "Kill 'Em All" era Metallica, or early Siousxie And The Banshees would have recorded with.

I understand that some mics were made throughout a time period, so if you suggest a microphone that was around for a long time, how do i tell specifically what year the model i'm looking at was made?

Any other generalized information about microphones of this era would be appreciated. Thanks.

By the 80's, they were all pretty much using the same stuff they're using now.

And since guys like you all have this retro lust and want to use old mics ... they probably won't change much in the next 20 years either. :D

If you want to go back to the 60's, you could get in to some old electrovoice models like the RE-15 or the EV-666 I suppose -- The 666 would probably look the part, if that's your thing.

Shure SM7. The current model SM7b sounds the same as the prior SM7 and SM7a models.
