Im looking for a premium quality mic that is good for picking up a heavily distorted guitar, and if possble maybe one that is multi purpose so I can use it for bass and vocals. If not then Im also looking for suggestions on mics that would best fit all three scenarios.

any help would be greatly appreciated

What's the budget.

A sennheiser MD421 would be great for all three.

A Shure SM57/58 would be cheaper option.

MD421 is great, EV RE20 is another "all 3" option. The large diaphragm dynamics are always more expensive. But they sure are easy to work with.

Another vote for the MD 421. It's a mic that won't suck on anything, and it's better than the SM57.

The MD421 is killer, but it costs about 350 bucks, while an sm57-58 costs 90. The SM57-58 will do fine with distorted guitar, it's marginal on bass, and marginal on vocals.

Ribbon mics are the mic of chioce for many. I often use an RCA BK-5 or a Beyer M-160. Most ribbons sound different but I love them all on guitar cabs. I am growing to love ribbons so much, that I am persueing many different types of ribbons as they all have a very predictable sound. What I mean is My BK-5 always sounds the same and I know its sound. If I put it on a guitar cab I know how it will sound. The same with the Beyer but with a different charactor. All or most ribbons are warm and smooth

Yeah, ribbons would be a nice option too. The budget Nady/Aphex/Shiny Box ribbons are surprisingly good. Just keep them away from the port on a bass cab.

Here's a 57 and a 421 going together for only $100 with 1 day left. Ebay

I know the price will go up at the last minute, but it's be a great chance to get both!!
(It's not my auction btw..if I had the money, I'd get it myself...)
