im building a home studio and the light in my room that im building it in has a faint buzz, and i dont want this to affect my vocal recordings, should i change the whole light? is there any particulary low noise lights?

sorry if its a stupid question

Turn off the lights and use candles/lava lamps. They'll set a better mood for tracking. ;)

Lights and equipment on same breaker, hmmmm. A power conditioner may help, as manufactured by Furman, Juice Goose, Monster, etc. I like the tracking with candles idea, seriously.

If it's a florescent light, either turn it off or replace it. Florescent lights are well known to cause hum and buzz. Or if you have a dimmer switch on the light, and the light is on the same circuit as the outlets this can be the cause of hum. Other appliences (fans, refrigerators, furnace/AC etc...) which may even be on different circuits (wired to the same side in the breaker box) can also cause hum. Hope you find the cause, any unwanted noise is frustrating and can ruin an otherwise perfectly good recording.

Most singers I know need a light buzz to record some vocals.

Is it the fixture itself buzzing or is it causing a 60 cycle hum in the signal?

Either way the quickest easiest fix is what was mentioned. Turn it off for tracking. :D
