Let's get rid of autotune

this thread is pretty lame...if you don't like autotune, don't use it and don't listen to crap that contains it. People always whine about how it's an unfair thing, or how it makes anyone be able to "sing." I say who cares...get over it. As for the "truly talented" people that autotune is the enemy of, if they are truly talented, they will overcome it and you have nothing to worry about.

What's lame is posting in a thread about how the thread is lame.
so yeah we're spouting off.. we're HOME RECORDISTS not pop mogul managers or studio engineers... whaddya want?
I honestly hate it not just for itself in that effectsy stuff but for what it represents. we're all big boys here and we deserve our moment to rant about something that is responsible for your every trip to a grocery store seem wierdly pop-musicly turned into a morphine'd out zombie walk

lol!!!!!!!

Auto-tune is no different than sample replacement on drums, and most people have no problem with that. Kick or snare doesn't sound quite right? Replace it. Vocals are a little off? Auto-tune! Just like with sampled drums, auto-tune is really only bad when it's ridiculous sounding, but by then, it's more used as an effect than it is to actually correct pitchiness. I don't use auto-tune and don't listen to anything that does, but I don't get the hatred towards it. It's just a tool used in really shitty genres. Yall shouldn't be listening to that shit anyway. :laughings:

this is to true!!! auto tune is on everything!!!! believe it or not. even the most talented of singers will use it for a few notes here and there just to save money. if it's not noticeable then whats the issue its all about making a track sound as good as it can be.

Hey we all had training wheels when we first were learning to ride a bicycle right.

you dont 'listen' to katy perry you just check out her outfit. Black-eyed-peas? oh dear where to begin.. how about their "live" gig at the superbowl... um... yeah...

That live superbowl show of theirs was a complete clusterfuck from beginning to end - I ain't never seen autotune used live before.

As others have said, most people's main problem with it is it's ubiquity as an effect. How many records you actually listen to that have it layered all over and spoil your listening. The last Kanye West record is the only one I've got - good album apart from the autotune and tedious amounts of cussing

like I said before--if you don't like it, don't listen to songs that contain it. Sorry that's hard to understand ;)

I see a new reality-TV contest show in the making... Americas Got Sound Effects. At least it would be honest.

haha, don't take me to seriously. I don't personally use auto tune on myself.

But I find the debate a tad silly. I absolutely can't stand rap, or any of the genres that stem from it but I'm not going to go around and say the MPC is a shitty tool (although I will admit, at this point I think computers do it better).

Haha I don't use it either. I just find it tiresome how people always complain about it.

Careful...we might be sounding out of touch. They said the same thing about that darn new fangled thing the electric guitar.

Seriously, who gives a fuck? Who here listens to the mindless rap and pop stuff that utilizes auto-tune?

Most teenagers 12-25 who are non-musicians. That seems to be the target demographic for radio & recorded music these days. I believe that Auto-Tune has its place in pop, hip-hop, dance and electronic music, but not in more "traditional" genres. I'm really more concerned about the ever-mounting use of sampled instruments in rock and country music and the likes of it. Recordings today sound so un-natural and un-musical when a computer tries to do everything, but no one seems to wanna do anything about that.

I don't listen to the radio anymore. It's mostly because of the mindless prattling DJs and commercials that go on and on and on and fucking on for 15 minutes for every 5 minutes of insipid, uninspired, sound-alike "music" they play. I swear to God, every time I get into the car, the melody on the radio is some ripoff of Taylor Swift's "You Belong with Me" done in a different genre. It's not just the fact that they use AutoTune. It's the fact that nobody even fucking tries anymore. That's not just an indictment of the music industry. That's lazy-ass motherfucking Americans in general.
