Dance music is MONO! (which is obviously what he's producing)

No wonder those dance tracks NEVER have ANY problems with phase cancellation :D

Yeah, that's a beautiful studio, Stefan! Congrats! Guys who track in that studio should consider themselves lucky.

Thane,

Rick is right in that your placement of your little white speakers there will probably hurt your perception of the stereo image, but here is an idea for you. A pair of cheap, $35 wall mounts for those speakers. They are small enough that the units they have in Lowes or Home Depot should support them no problem, and mount those speakers to the side of your hutch, facing you. This way you're not giving up valuable desk space, but increasing your ability to perceive stereo imaging.

Just an idea... and a not so expensive one either...

Just bought them for $13.99 this afternoon at Target!

I think(hope) that maybe Giginova was refering to 'Dance Music" at a club/party, the the PA system should be configured to a MONO state.
No one likes a "dead spot" at a club when the bassline pans.

You keep forgetting one important thing:

Dance clubs are usually mono, true, but there still is a lot of engineering involved in speaker placement.

While you want the sub to force everyone's heartbeat to beat together, you have to put a lot of effort into putting the mid-bass and high frequency drivers around so that you don't have deadspots on the floor.

At some of those pressure levels, that's a tough job!

Even better!

The day I saw his pic, I happened to notice a set in lowes and was thinking to myself.. hmm.... get the rear monitors off the back desk...

wallmart it is!

I have installed many clubs. Not a one was installed in mono. With decent equipment and proper placement, there really aren't "dead spots" either. Maybe a cheap club needs to be mono, but not one that hires professionals to go in and do the installs and spec the gear.

I've worked in "famous" clubs in NYC that were mono.

I don't believe it has anything to do with being cheap.

who really notices if its stereo or mono in a club anyway??

i mean i dont think ppl say
"nah, dont go there...they have a mono setup did u know that?? eww..."

but i think mono is better for a club

I hate when I hear a song on club speakers, and lets say it has sterio guitar, and one goes out, and you're supposed to hear the other one playing, but it's just silence. That gets to me.

Then it was probably a shitty mix to begin with.

And why do you type everything in bold?

No seriously.

How come?

And what I meant by a shitty mix is that you should always do a mono test to see if you lose any instruments when in mono. Lots of radio stations still broadcast in Mono, so it's an important test.

It's just something I do. I guess when I want to read back on something I may have said a while back, I can always detect my post because it is in bold. Or maybe it's just so I can be different : bats eyes L
