Hmm, wish I'd read this before as I've almost finished the room and the walls are blue Doh! :o

Man blue has wayyyy too many problems, flutter echo all over the place, and your gonna need tons i mean TONS of bass traps.

He's kidding. One color has absolutely no advantage over another. Paint the walls whatever color you want.

Frank

Phew, good to know and saved a major household row - I will now paint the walls whatever colour I want - which just happens to be exactly the same colour my wife wants - funny that. ;)

Here's my first post on this forum... This is my small home set up. It's based around an old G4 and Mbox2 running Pro Tools LE 7.0, with various mic pres I've collected throughout the years. Right beneath the computer monitor are my latest acquisitions, the guitar hero toy amp out of my Corn pops this morning, and my best piece, the sonogram of my first kid. My only hope now is that she'll either become interested in recording, or singing, so I can convince my wife when I need or want a new piece of gear!

Thanks, Grey! Now I just need to figure out what pres I need to replace my Presonus bluetubes. I don't really use them too much now that I got the Avalon and the Trident.

I noticed a lot of you have those little black heart half stacks. Why are they such a studio staple? Also, how important are sonic maximizers?

wow I feel like i could crawl in your studio and never return. Man I'm uber jealous, do you own it or work in it, or both lol? Either way props.

shes all mine lol. just doing it outta the house. but it works, sounds good. :) & thanks man!

My new setup :) Not quite done yet.
This is during playtime, not music time!
I record things away from here (in studios, at peoples' houses, etc) so this is more a mix rig than a studio.

I have an HP monitor that swivels so you can switch between having it setup vertically or horizontally.

If that's what it is.....then good monitor purchase, dude! I love mine. It has a really nice glossy finish on the panel and looks great. You have to watch though the glossy ones don't work well next to windows becuase they throw off more glare than the average monitor. I think most of us are in basement dungeons though so no worries.

I'm surprised by the amount of posts here where CLEARLY a lot of money has been invested in equipment, yet acoustic treatment has been totaly overlooked.

I'd say for by your ears acoustic treatment is the second most important thing in a studio. Even with a half way decent treated room a good pair of ears can mix with crap equipment.

Yup, its a pivot-y HP 24incher :). Picked it up verrrry cheap - the backlight has faded and its got some of the pink banding around the outside, but you don't notice it after a while (especially with a dark window, i.e. Sonar, open).

The three smaller screens total 3840x1024, and the 24" is 1920x1200 :D

Of course the most important thing is the monitors and the listening setup, but when you're juggling a load of tracks the screen real-estate does come in handy!
