I don't recall ever hearing organ tracks on your stuff.
I mean, are you saying you've actually tried it and know from personal experiance....or you just looking to stir the pot a bit (which is more up your alley)...? :D ;)

It was a joke (which obviously isn't up your alley)........oh, I almost forgot: :D ;)

Actually, your explanation of how you use it on an oscillating keyboard is probably the only case of it making sense that I can think of.

,,,,,and yes, when I first started recording, I used keyboards in all my music. But that's neither here nor there, just answering your question.

Awww 'c'mon now....how many smilies do I need to add..... :D ;) :)

I was asking Greg if he ever used organ tracks....not you....sorry for the mixup.

I'm not stirring the pot. I'm trying to save someone the hassle of jacking with this idiotic idea that gets mentioned way too often. I have used organs, and I swear, I have tried and tried in the past to make the copy/paste/pan/shift "technique" not sound like total shit on guitars and vocals. It's impossible, and anyone that says otherwise is simply wrong or just fooling themselves. And before you play the "maybe you don't know how to do it" card, don't even go there. I know how to track and mix - especially my own stuff - and you know this. I know it's not prudent to take such a hard-line stance on anything in audio, but I don't care. I'll fight the good fight here. Copy/paste/pan/shift flat-out sucks - especially on guitars when the idea is to cheat them into sounding "big". If you think it works, knock yourself out. I guess it's cool for when you want your guitar tracks to sound like they're coming from a sea shell.

Greg...I didn't say anything about guitar split/panning.....I only responded to your comment that for that method when used on organ tracks with vibrato when you say it sounds like "ass".....which it really doesn't....so I was curious if you actually ever tried it?

If you look back on the couple of times split/panning was discussed....all I ever talked about for split/panning as a cool option, had to do with organ tracks. I mean, even RAMI now says that the explanation I gave then on how I use it, is doable and makes sense.

And just for anyone here who wasn't part of those older threads....
The technique is to take an organ track *with vibrato*...split it, pan each track to opposite sides and then slide one of the tracks so that the "UP" portion of its vibrato falls on the "DOWN" portion of the other organ track's vibrato. You slide it only for one half-cycle of the vibrato....which maybe ends up being a few milliseconds.
The reason it works where it doesn't with split/panning identical guitar tracks....is because of the vibrato and because you shift the time of one track by half of a vibrato cycle.

Hey....you might not like that sound on everything, or it might not work for your given song...but the technique is legit, and it will hold up to a MONO image very well, but its real sweetness is in a stereo image because the vibrato now oscillates the organ sound L/R with each half-cycle...and that gives the whole stereo image some 3D movement that works on some types of songs.
I think I've used it on maybe a handful of songs I've ever used organ tracks on....so you have to try it and see, and it's pretty easy to try.

This is where I stopped reading. I didn't see where you said anything about organ tracks other than asking me if I'd ever used them.

I don't give a shit about organ tracks. It was mentioned for guitars, and I'm vehemently against it.

:D

Hey....that's cool, I didn't say anyone HAD to use organ tracks.

RAMI and you brought them up in this thread....not me.

It's been several years since I've tracked an organ, but if it ever comes up again I'll try this stupid technique. Don't hold your breath though. I like organs a lot but they rarely have a place in my kind of music. I record kazoos more often than organs. :D
