Latency issues with 122!!!!!!!

Ok - so I've got some issues, lemme know what to do!

1. using home studio2002, when I'm playing back audio information (or recording over it) it is jumpy and skippy. But the CPU usage is at 1% at all times. I've got athlon 1.2 and 512 ram..

2. the recording is not in sync with the previous audio. it was without the tascam but now isn't. where are the settings to help this?

3. in relations, under control panel i click the tascam icon. what do the values in the latency setting there mean?

4. also, when adjusting the volume of my incoming signal, in cakewalk on the db meter, what is the ideal level to record at? just at zero before the red clip light comes on?

thanks!

who the heck rated this a one, and didn't respond?

PS: the latency is mostly a function of th elatency/buffer option.

before I was using the same software, fruity and cakewalk, same everything except now new tascam 122.

if I set the buffer high, the latency (occuring upon playback of even just a metronome) is nearly gone, but the recording is behind the metronome.

if I set the buffer the lowest, the metronome is random beats, hideous.

Any other settings I should know about? Occurs in both progs so I assume it is beyond the progs.

also - I have a 1.2 athlon with 256 ram.........was fine before i got the tascam, any ideas?

I've got a 1.6gh AMD with 512RAM in my desktop and I've never had a problem with latency.

When I use my Sony Vaio laptop (1.8 P4) I have latency issues when I record over 7 tracks... strange.

I'm using the copy of Cubase that came with the device.

Sorry I can't offer any advice here; just thougth I'd share my experiences.

****************

I have tried the settings on the soundcard properties AND the two latency settings in cakewalk.

I CANNOT get enough buffer to have a simple playback in cakewalk without skipping......

even my mp3s in the player (musicmatch) skip every once in a while.

and I can't get it so there is a small enough amount of latency in recording.

anyone know of any other settings in windows ME, in the tascam, or in cakewalk etc....????

I'm dying here - do you think I need more RAM? I would think I have enough. It seems since audio skips in the mp3 player, and in cakewalk it must not be a software issue.

Please gimme ideas I'm dying to record!

I would scrap Windows ME if I were you, and install 2000 or XP. WinME is a joke.

Win ME isn't a joke. It's actually quite serious.

Anyhow - it turns out the virus was the cause. I have now gotten rid of the virus (took 6 hours to scan my hdd) and there i snow NO latency even on the lowest buffer settings.

Phew - finally!

screw the w32.pinfi virus!

Yeah, a serious piece of sh*t! (no offense).

Glad you got 122 working.

I'll get a new windows version when I get a new computer. An OS is one thing I am not willing to pirate - could cause way to much problems if it was a hackjob of a file!

PS: Anyone know the issue date for longhorn? Any time soon or long time from now?
