I'll research that DAW a little more now, thanks for the help man :)

Is the MXL 990 really that good? i was literally JUST about to buy that and thought the price was too good to be true....

I dont do death metal, but screamo and singing vox so.... yeahhhh same recording techniques i guess.

Ya man it's worth the investment. but if you don't like it there is a return policy.

I would say yes... especially for the price. I picked up the 990 and 991 package at guitar center for $80 I think. I had to buy the shock mount separately but still... I had been using a 58 but it didn't catch the guttural throat sounds like I wanted. The 990 does this with no problems. I would also suggest a pop filter especially if you've never used a condenser mic before. I was used to my radioshack mic and the SM58, eating the mic with no problems with plosives... nothing that a good de esser couldn't fix anyway... I had to drive back out to Guitar Center to get a filter.

Don't go passing off your naughty habits  on the Newbie forum that one finds oneself constantly retuning to ! Psychedelia is done and dusted, though people are apparently still roaming the newbieverse, I mean universe.....;)

:laughings:

Also I forgot to mention that the picture is deceiving the microphone is huge very close to being the same size as your head!

Somehow that makes me want it if for nothing else than the novelty factor...

Ahh, i see thats always cool, i really want to use Pro Tools, because everyone seems to be using that, and some kids go to school just to learn that kinda stuff so yeah, but as for the mics, haha its all good man advice is advice none the less and its greatly appreciated!! :)

Unless you're planning on working in a studio, doing the Pro Tools Courses and exams, or buying Pro Tools HD and all of it's expensive components, I'd avoid Pro Tools if I was you. I use it, but I fall into the category of people who plan to work in a studio :D

Reason 1: Lack of interface options - They're very expensive, and you could get much better interfaces for the same price.

Reason 2: The RTAS engine - It's awfully unstable, it maxes out very easily, and there is many more VST plugins available on the market (for free too)

Reason 3: Pro Tools itself is known for being on "that time of the month", all of the time. It's very moody.

Reason 4: The Avid website :p Silly, I know, but if you have to use the Avid website, you better boil a pot of coffee because it could take you weeks to find what you were looking for :D

Reason 5: A lot of limitations in Pro Tools LE/M-Powered, such as track count. You can get the full version of another DAW for the same price, if not cheaper than the stripped down (LE/M-Powered) version of Pro Tools.

I'd advise Cubase, Reaper, or Logic (Logic is mac-only).

Edit: If you want plenty of reasons why NOT to go with Pro Tools, I suggest you spend 20 minutes over at the Digi User Conference
