Largest hard drive you can put in a VF08?

Hi, I want to finally buy an 8 or 16 track, and have decided to get my feet wet via a VF08. Can you tell me how large a hard drive I can put in this unit to replace the 5.1 gig one? Also, if I should not bother with this unit and get another, please redirect me, OK. Thanks so much, Psongman
 
The VF08 has been replaced by the VF80. The VF80 comes with a 20 gig HD that can be user replaced with a larger one, if needed. On the Japanese website, they show a VF80 "professional" that has an 80gig drive.

I'd go with the VF80 over the VF08... AND if you think you'll need more tracks, go with the VF160...

In any event, the VF80 is a great machine!
 
Hi, thanks B man or woman, hehe, but I was looking for the largest hard drive I could put in a VF08, as they are selling these in 2 places I know for about $200, VF80's cost twice as much. Keep the replies, coming in, IAT, Psongman
 
Aha! I see. $200. is a great price. Here's what I found out... Looks like you can go to 80gig.

Wow, Thanks so much, guess I should have gone to Fostex site. Has anybody out there had any experience with them? See, when you add a hard drive that has more storage space you can lay down so many tracks and work with them later. A few friends of mine have the Fostex MR8 and they said you had to have at least a 512mb card to accomlish anything. Well, I have been listening and may fork out the money and get a VF80, or VF160 so I can burn the CD as soon as it is mixed and mastered. I appreciate all the input and will take it to heart. If forking out the necessary cash is realistic for you, then either get the VF80, or better still the VF160. More tracks is almost always better, assuming everything else is the same.

The VF80/160 CDR's are great machines with great burners. I've done 60-80CD's on my VF80CDR without even one skip... My PC burner doesn't come close to this performance.

Basically, get the best you can afford.

The one drawback with the vf-08 ( & the vf-80) is that you can only record 2 inputs at once. If you can live with that, they seem to be a lot of bang for the buck. Especially if you can get it in decent shape for $200! I bought a used -08 last month (w/ a 10G drive, $295 on ebay) and am having a lot of fun with it.
 
Yeah, Jfrog, you got a decent deal. It seems these older units go for about that. Those Western Digital Protege 40 gigers go for $56 new, so that is an easy upgrade, too. The Fostex site says they can be used without an upgrade of the firmware, so hope so. If anybody has any more input, it is greatly appreciated. I see where a FD108 went for $300 today, WOW, isn't that a dyno price. Somehow, I feel that it would be smart to jump to the VF160 to get the CD's burned...but maybe a little learning first would be wise. I do like the analog mixers in those other units as I have a Tascam TMD1000 digital mixer and it is a pain to use unless you are patient and understand saving, storing, and moving around in scenes, not unlike real life and we are actors, haah, later, Psongman
 
HEY!!

I have the vf08, mine has the 10 gig hard drive and that gives me over 40 hours of recording time. I don't think i'll ever use
all the memory on mine, 40 hrs should be enough for anyone.

I have the same model! Plenty of harddrive space!!
