I don't think it is a big deal, but buying a Motif for making beats is like buying a Ferrari for a work car

You are right to consider it because the MPC 2000 will run you $1400 online, but frankly you would have as much success with the Casio WK 1800($499). My nephew has one and he takes money from his friends in beat creating contests. It's not the kinda ketboard you want if your trying to sell CD's, but for idea generation it does pretty damn good.
