Hi all, I've been searching around and getting some great ideas for starting my new home studio. I am planning to start out recording electric guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals.

Here's what I am planning so far.
Everything controlled by a Macbook laptop using standard garage band for now.
I already have a M-audio mobile pre that I will use to start.
AT4040 microphone - going to be my 1st and only microphone for quite a while.
ATH-M50s headphones.
Tall boom stand.
Short boom stand.
Pop filter for vocals.

The next step (after some recovery from the spending already) will be;
Apogee Duet audio interface.
Mac Studio software - any recommendations?
Room treatments - any recommendations?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions that you can provide. I look forward to learning from you as I attempt to wade through this.

Keep your setup 'recording ready'. By that I mean concentrate on a working, functioning setup that will let you record whenever the mood strikes. Working within limitations is the best way to reveal what is really needed and what's going to be a waste of money.

The Apogee Duet should be the last thing you buy. The interface you have now is fine for the near future. Room treatments likewise. See if you can get away with some improvised solutions like throw pillows in corners, old comforters hung over windows, etc. before you decide what you need to buy.

There's only one software package that you should look at - Logic Studio or Logic Express 8. These are junior versions of Logic, but have most of the features that you will use most often. If you like it you can upgrade to the full version at a discount.
