I have brought a used Mackie onyx premium mixer from a used gear website at a very reasonable price.
Man this baby rocks.
It took me a while to get my head round it but after messing about and twaeking I was able to get a lush warm sound.
I could'nt beiieve the clarity and the clean high headroom mic pre's plus the very wide frequency response.
The reason I got this mixer was because the 1220 is older then the 1220 i.
I prefer the slightly older Mackie mixers, I did try the new Pro FX 8 and it came no where near the quailty of the older Mackie compact mixers.
I did a gig tonight and in the gig was a group of sound engineers from Sweeden who were in the UK for the Expo exhibition.
I asked if any of them were musicians too and they said yes, so I asked if anyone of them will do a song on my guitar so i can hear it from the audience.
This young pretty girl came on the mic and her friend used my guitar.
She sang a cover folk song and let me tell you I just could'nt believe the sound quality.
A week ago or so I was raving about my Mackie DFX 6 and soundcraft M4 but this Mackie Onyx blows both of them away by miles.
I did hear that the 1202 has issues with firewire options but as a live mixer all I can say is wow!
What also blew me away was the very warm and musical EQ, just made everything sound sweeter.
