thanks for the search function and reading up alot, I decided to get a V67G with shockmount for $89 on e-bay as my first LDC and first vocal mic. I'll let you guys know how it is, and any suggestions on a decent cheap preamp?

I've had most of the cheap preamps. Here's what I found:

Stay away from the Art Tube MP. Don't believe the hype, at least for a vocal pre. As a Bass DI it's really quite good, however.

The M-audio Audiobuddy will work just fine as a starter pre, and it's under $100.

For just over $100, the DMP3 gets raves. I have the Omni Studio which has similar, though not quite as good, pres and they are decent.

The Rane mic pre (I forget the model) has gotten raves in a lot of places - the MS1B maybe? It can be found for around $150, so probably another thing to check out (I never have).

You can find various flavors of the Rane MS1x on eBay at very attractive, used pricing.

I have two Rane MLM series preamps, and both have the same circuit as used in the MS1 series. Very nice sounding stuff. Not Great River, but not priced that way either.

I specifically want a V67G for my 2nd LDC, as a radical tone complement to my current AT4040. That eBay seller at $89 including shockmount is getting excellent feedback. I contacted a couple of his clients, and they are happy with the product and transaction.

Didn't arrive. You are probably using one of the thousands of subnets I have blocked from my mail servers due to spamming. I block about 30,000 (not a typo) every month.

You can try to send to compudox at yahoo dot com if you want. I don't post email addresses in plain text on bbs due to harvesting by spammers.

I just got it from your Yahoo account.

I called Harvey and got a thumbs-up on the black model. He has the same in use at Indian Trail. I prefer the all black one anyway, less pimp-ish than the current gold and green model.

PayPal sent.

I'm looking forward to trying it out, and will let you know how it works for me. It should be a nice complement to my existing AT4040.
