I dont know if anybody here is a Joy Division fan, but im curious to know if anybodys knows the signal chain used for songs like "love will tear us apart" on vocals. that was produced by martin hannett, but i cant find much information on the gear he used. Does anybody know what mic was used? what preamp? I sometimes have a dark and moody voice like Ian Curtis, and however he recorded his voice, sure sounds damn good to me.

I haven't listened to them in awhile but it really doesn't matter what they used. You could get him and the same equipment and set it up in your room and will probably sound different. You just have to mess around and find something that works for you.

I would try a dynamic mic and run it through a speaker or some type of amp simulator.
