I bought this powered speaker a WHILE ago when I was really young.. Actually someone recommended it.. I really havent used it since other than to use it as a speaker for my keys.. But I'm trying to start home recording..

Can I use this speaker (oh! by the way, for some reason i only have ONE JBL eon15 G2... not two(a pair).. is this normal? Usually people use a pair right? SHould i go ahead and buy other JBL eon15 G2? Is there such a thing has left speaker and right speaker - so if mine is left, i should buy right one?)

..continuing on..

Can I use this speaker as a monitor as well? If I can't do i need to buy a separate monitor?

I'm so lost...please help!~!!

For home recording you want a pair of near-field reference monitors. They won't exaggerate certain frequencies like a PA speaker (like the Eon15) and are meant to be positioned about 3 or 4 away from you. A pair gives you a stereo field in which to pan the various instruments and vocals you record. You've gotta have a pair.

BTW- I have a single 15-each PA speaker in my studio just for keyboards and my bass guitar. I absolutely love the sound of digital pianos, synths, drum machine sounds, through a big speaker. It gives you a big bottom end, a warmth, and a character that a reference monitor won't. Reference monitors sound clean and accurate and that is perfect for mixing but I believe a PA speaker is more musical. Try playing a Minimoog through both types and you will see what I mean.

DO JBLs make near-field monitors? (i guess i should buy a pair of those huh) and.....DO they sell SINGLE unit of those pairs? (one of the two)or I HAVE TO BUY IN SETS (a pair)?

JBL does make reference monitors.

You need a pair. Active monitors have built-in amplifiers and passive monitors require you to buy an amplifier for them. I don't know your budget but a few examples of some good reasonably priced active monitors are ;

KRK RP-8 $500 for a pair
KRK RP-6 $400 for a pair
Event TR-8 $500 a pair
Event TR-6 $400

There are lots of threads here on homerecording.com about monitors and I would look for them. I'm really not the person to give advice on what is available right now because I haven't done any shopping for monitors in a while.
