Is this metal sound good?

OK, all there's a new mix. The kick and snare are EQ'd differently on this. And bass is different.

Kick - 63-90Hz, raised 3db. 235Hz-1.9kHz, lowered by 10db like a curve. 5.2-7.5kHz, raised 5db.
Kick - Verb, bright hall. Decay time: 2.5 seconds. Pre-delay 30 millisecond.

Snare - 6kHz-7.7kHz, raised by 3-4db.
Snare - Verb, bright hall. Decay time: 3.5 seconds. Pre-delay 150.
Snare - Track compressor, attach 3millisecond, release 30. Amount: 3:1.

Bass - Low Cut below 90Hz. Sharp fall below 138Hz - 90Hz. 208-424Hz, lowered 6-9db. 487-680Hz, raised 5db. 780Hz-1.5kHz, lowered by 25db, 7kHz, raised by 10db, slow falling to 20kHz. That bass is crazy.

That will make it sound like this:

I think I'm listening to the latest mix....sounding pretty decent. I think it's pretty even....I hear guitar, bass and drums.....they seem to have some decent sonic space so far. Drums could maybe use a bit more bottom end...seems thin in the kick...a little too machine gun like.

Coming along well though man....

Trying to go for something really heavy. Any comments on composition, recording, performance, mixing?

Yo, hoss!!

The mix is very "distant", like you're walking from your car tot he arena to hear the concert and the music from sound check is bleeding into the street... Needs more ass in the drums... master level is very smallish... No nits compositionwise, as I don't beging to understand metal variants. It's nice and crunchy though. NO nits at all on your playing, very sophisticated and skilled!

Dogman, thanks for listening. I am not sure which mix you listened to but the latest link was broken. :)

Anyway, thanks for listening. I'm trying to totally redo this and get the proper metal sound that I want. This is starting to sound more alternative/punk metal'ish in the guitars. And very small for the guitars after listening to more metal. :)

Latest links aren't working for me?

Wireneck, thanks for trying. :) Your post is indeed very fun to listen to for your your song. Listened to it earlier but didn't to comment out of laziness. :)

Hey Llarion, the mix you listened to it the first mix. It has the muffled sound to the guitars. :) Does sound as if you're listening to the guitars outside the playing grounds. :)

Sorry for seeing this so late, so far I like the latest the best. I'm listening on headphones for what it's worth. Cool writing man, I really like how you write your leads/arrange your guitar parts. If i try to imagine what i would do if i was mixing this i think i'd try for a more aggressive bass sound and see how that sounds. Whenever i have guitar problems i always start with the bass and that seems to help me. If you're looking for more drum samples/wav's i'm going to a buddies this weekend and recording some (just for fun) and he's into heavier styles so if you were interested i'll zip em and send them your way (unless it's a total disaster). Really like it man and i hope you get the sound you're looking for.

Take care
gary

I just went to your soundclick page, and listened to both versions posted....now listening to the newest link.

Guitars are sounding ok, but could use more beef...maybe more of them layered? Dink around with it some, cuz I think you're on the right track. Sounding good man....:D

Listened to link from post#48.....Like your playing alot, to my ears the guitars seem to be lacking in depth a bit. The overall mix seems a bit 2-dimensional. I do really like the arrangement and playing and think this would really rock if you could develop a fuller/ deeper sound. Definitely worth the work you have invested into this!!

You could try layering the guitars, high pass them and experiment with panning to get them sounding more aggressive

Hey Bubba, cool tune  Looks like you got a lot of tips on how to improve the mix already. Just some ideas... I think the 0:44 - 0:52 like guitar parts could be defined more, depending on what you planned on doing with vox maybe even backing that with a clean chorused guitar could sound cool. Or a synth pad... I'm not sure how much of a demo this or if you plan on restructuring the tune at all but if you do I'd recommend using the 1:44 - 2:00 part more in the tune. That part is pretty sweet and catchy, could build up with more layers in cool ways too. Nice work ;)
