I've been working on this track for a while. It's very inspired by David Bowies Space Oddity and I want it to have a 70s feel.

I've tried some stuff like high-pass the bass at 150Hz and make ot sound more "boxy", make the drums sound very tight and dry and make the strings feel less high-quality.

Does the mix give a 70s feel? Is there anything more I can do to make it sound better?

NOTE: The vocals are currently an AI blueprint. The melody is composed by me, I just used a mix of guitar and my own voice to temporarily convert it into AI to use as a blueprint for a real singer down the line. For now I'm mainly asking for feedback on the rest of the track to make it sound very 70s, so ignore the vocals for now. It's easier to change in this stage if needed before recording it for real.

Also, does the song feel like it's getting boring? I already shortened the verses a bit but it might drag on to long. I've added some soundeffects and small stuff here and there to make stuff happen from time to time. The lyrics tells a story as well, so I really want to keep all of it.

I appreciate any feedback!

Really nice track Jeff! Definitely get the 70's vibe but in a really good way. I look forward to hearing the real thing when you add the actual vocals etc.

Thank you! Happy to hear the 70s vibe is working :) Yeah real vocals are coming! It's easier to use an AI blueprint incase anything needs to change before recording since it's hard to find the time with the singer.

Managed to find the time to record vocals faster than I thought, here's the result, no AI in sight :)
With the vocals it’s sounds like a Harry Nilsson tune before his voice went - BTW I wouldn’t classify it as 1970s - except for the lyrics - they are 70s - good song - you have good vocals- very pure - what was the chain?

Just listened to some Harry Nilsson and you're right, feels similar :)

You mean the sound/mix doesn't feel 70s or the composition as a whole? Any tips on how to make it feel more 70s?

The vocal chain is EQ with low-pass at 9Khz and some cuts att 200 and 400Hz -> 1176 compressor (Has now been removed since I felt that the pronounciation of some words was kinda hard to hear) -> LA-2A compressor with around 5-7db gain reduction -> DeEsser. Also had a delay bus and Valhalla Vintage reverb bus with chorus.
