is there a patch for my computer that will allow me to hook up and external ZIP drive and load, onto my computer, using the ZIP disk from the VS840, the sperate VS840 tracks, as WAV. files. so that i can mix them down using my computer based mixing program?

someone said i could, but i think they were worng :(

It's a free download for the Boss BR8 - works with 840 and 840EX 100MB zip disk - not GX or 250MB disks.
Look for it at www.rolandus.com in the support pages.

i'll try it

thanks, i downloaded the patch. now i need to find someone with an old external zip drive i can have. :) i'll let you know if it works.

doesn't work

:( i hooked up the zip drive and tried the BR8 patch. it gave me the error message that "not BR8 disk". JimY do you know anyone that got this to work? or did you hear that it would? cuz i heard that too. but they were wrong i think. let me know if you got anymore ideas. thanks

There used to be some software that allowed you to export from your 880 via scsi, .wav files directly to your computer. Go over to the vs planet www.vsplanet.com and do a search. There's actually a thread in the 2480 forum right now that speaks of this software. The company is out of business now, but I'm sure theres rogue copies still floating around somewhere. Try asking for it in the 880 forum at the Planet also.

What sort of sound card do you have in your computer and what program are you going to mix them in on the computer?....

Depending on the set up, what I did to get all my tracks off the 840.. granted it was a lengthy project with all the tracks on some songs, was connect an optical cable (could also work with RCA cables to a stereo jack on a sound card however optical signal will reduce another AD converter) and a MIDI cable to the PC, synced my software up to the 840 and recorded two mono tracks at a time to the PC.

I guess you can do that as a last resort..

As to why you can't get the software to work.. as was in Jim Y's post, you are using 100Mb disks and aren't running EX firmware?

It Works!!!!!!

thanks to JimY i got the right patch. the tracks load as stereo wav files. so track 1 and two end up being 1 wav file with each track being on each side. this is so cool.

so porter how did you sync your puters software to the vs 840? i had trouble doing that part. if i could sync em up it would of helped. can i sync up two vs840s? that would give me 8 live trackis at a time. is it with a midi trigger of something????

You can make mono wav's, if only one mono track is selected. In fact, I'm sure I've done just that, in and out. So you can export every 840 track for mixing in a pc multitracker, including the v-tracks

I did an experiment with drum loops. A friend sent me an mp3 of some drumming, I cut it into phrases in Sonar, turned them into groove clips, arranged them as a backing track, adjusted tempo to suit and then exported as a stereo wav. This was then imported to the 840 media via the Br8 proggy and a song recorded to the drum track. Then exported back to the pc to be finished. All very cool I thought. What surprised me was that with the 840 tempo set the same as I used in Sonar, the bar/beats matched up perfectly.
Obviously, you could assemble as many elements into a backing track as you like from loops.

I do most work in Sonar now, but the Br8 program means the 840 is a very handy portable recorder for me and by no means obsolete.

so the patch will work both ways? i can create tracks on my computer and load them into the vs840? cool. unfortunatly, hooking up this zip drive is causing my Acid not to work. i now can't open any of my songs. :(
