Hi everyone,

I tried to install my mbox to my Windows XP today, and the installation stopped midway, so only half of the files were installed. I tried to uninstall protools LE but I couldn't remove the program. Neither was I able to repair the program. When I attempted to reinstall, I received the message: "the filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect."

If anyone knows how I can reinstall Protools, please let me know.

Thanks,
Lana

I have an Intel Pentium 4 processor, a Windows XP Service Pack 2, and an 865G/PE/P chipset.

That's strange. Have you tried calling/e-mailing Digidesign yet?

What other applications did you have open when installing Pro Tools?

they're closed today, and it's always hard to reach them. All other applications were closed when I installed. do you know what "<iconPath>\" means?

What happens when you try to uninstall under add/remove programs? Do you receive an error message?

when you go to add/remove, and press remove, it tells you that it's removing it, and that you need to restart the computer, but when you get back on Digidesign is still there.

Looking under program files, there is no "uninstall" file for the program.

And there was an error message that directIO.dll wasn't present, and I downloaded that driver, but now the error message when I try to modify/reinstall is, in reference to something called iconPath: "the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

bennychico: thanks for your help. I managed to uninstall Protools. But as I tried the installation disk again the installation froze at about the time some driver hardware was being installed. I believe the disk is damaged, or there may be a compatability issue. what should I do now?

i doubt it's a compatibility issue. if it was just the compatability you just wouldn't be able to start pro tools itself...you should at least be able to still install it.

I would contact Digi directly and ask them to get you another disc or a link to download the installation file. What version are you trying to install?
If you try and e-mail Digi...e-mail the tech support and not customer service, as I've had problems getting CS to return e-mails. Tech support has always been great for me.

So I did email tech support and I'll see what they say. Do you think I should get another program rather than protools?

see if you can work this out with them. it's really odd that it's doing that to you. I wouldn't give up TOO quickly if I were you, computers can be a hassle sometimes. But if you'd prefer to just make it easier on yourself or you have to get recording ASAP, then there are lot of programs out there that work with the Mbox.

thanks very much for your help. I went to talk to my salesperson, and he said he'll help me by contacting the manufacturer, so maybe I'll be able to install it through the internet.
