OK, here's a retarded question. I am looking into either the E-MU 1212M or the Audiophile 2946. Both have 2 "1/4 inch" inputs labeled L and R. Can I record separate tracks into each of these inputs or are they meant for panning the same recording between left and right speakers?

each of the 1/4 inputs will record its own track, so you can record two tracks at once (a guitar and vocals, etc.). you will end up with two wav files. depending on the software, they may show up panned, one right and one left like stereo, but you may just need to center each track... hope this helps

And with an editing program. You can seperate the two tracks into two seperate mono tracks (in truth, they already are mono).
