Info on a Casiotone MT-140

Hey guys, searched the boards and couldn't find anything. I found an old Casiotone MT-140 in my in-laws basement tonight and promptly stole it. 2 questions:

1. Where can I find a manual for it?
2. There's a little output on the back - any clue what kind of cord I need for that?

Just can't find much info on it, but I turned it on and just loved how funky it sounded.
 
Casio made a zillion different models of cheap keyboards like that in the 80's. My guess is that it does not have MIDI but probably does have a 1/4" output jack.

Every keyboard I've ever tried has had lots of so-so sounds and then a few real good ones. It doesn't matter if it's $25 or a $25K that seems to be the case.

I had several Casios and the organs were always so bad that they were good, plus they'd have a few odd synth sounds.

Those can be great in the studio. A story needs contrast to be interesting, and the sound you get when you have a song played with pro-level instruments and then put a POS Casio that you found in your in-laws basement :eek: as a lead instrument can be very cool. Like "Do it Again".

I'm not sure why having a very, very simple sound as a lead instrument sits on top of a track so well.

I couldn't agree more - there's a chorus sound on this thing that's surprisingly big and lush with a little tremolo! Can't wait to find a place for it. Now if only I could mod it to control the speed of the tremolo - I'd be set. Looks like there's just a headphone jack on this thing. Any convertors out there to get it into a 1/4" jack? Otherwise I'm stuck mic'ing the darn thing, which would create a even more lo-fi sound I suppose

What was that output on the back you mentioned?

I would have thought that it would have been a 1/4" or RCA out.

You could possibly use the headphone jack turned down real low, although mic'ing it would capture that patented plastic sound Casio is famous for. :)
 
The headphone out is probably a 1/4"stereo (slight chance it's a 5/32 mini). Adapter cables to two RCA plugs (L+R) are available at Radioshack.
