This will be my final post on the Home Recording site! I joined about 3 years ago,(I think. one loses track at my age). During that time I have gone from newbie to senior member, which has to do with the number of comments I've posted and absolutely nothing to do with recording skills or knowledge acrued. I've searched through each subject category for any bit of knowledge that might assist me in my own pursuits as a home recordist and found little of value. What I have learned is that the average contributors to this site range from totally ignorant to knowledgeable, pro studio operators. Most are in the first category. I've suffered insults, slurs, irrevelent comments and downright putdowns by some folks who probably talk a better game than they could actually perform. I even put up a site where my own songs could be reviewed and commented on. To my surprise I only recieved great compliments, both on the recordings and my musical talent! To those folks I again humbly appreciate your compliments. The main thing that I've gleaned from all this is, I am probably more advanced in my recording ability than most of the members here, and that includes several that set them selves up as experts! As I stated earlier, I am too old to waste my time composing comments and answers here. I'd rather spend it at honing my skills hands on in hope that each recording I do will be better than the last. To the few that seriously tried to help, thanks again. To the egocentric snobs who insist on winning a debate more than relevant participation to reach a harmonious answer to a problem I say, you too are wasting your time trying to prove to others that you are something your not and are not capable of being! There are more than likely people who will join as I did and, for their sake I hope they find this site more meaningful and rewarding than I. I have to assume that I probably heve looked at the world through rose colered glasses which is no doubt a result of my upbringing and the society I grew up in. However, if my experiences here are typical of what society is becomming I will have no part in it! Good luck to you young folks. Trust your ears and your insticts and the music. It will lead you to your goals. Take constructive criticism in good faith and ignore the rest! Goodbye and Good luck.

It was pretty long, wasn't it? It sure could have used a few paragraph breaks to make it easier to read.

Did gerg beat up Terry?

:spank:

maybe so ...... I always think it's funny when someone feels the need to post a big thing about how they're 'leaving'.

As if anyone cares or will even notice.

And then inevitably a month later they're back so the real waste of his time was composing his farewell letter.
:laughings:

I don't think I've had any interaction with this guy.

maybe it was a beatdown via osmosis?

Your "don't be lame" vibes are so strong you don't even have to be around to kick someones' ass!

:D

Hmmmmm....that's unusual to have someone run off and you not involved. :laughings:

It's a shame that someone who so obviously feels that he is better at this racket than the majority - and he probably is - is more concerned abut what he has to learn here than what he has to offer here. I feel like that farewell was written by Evan Bayh (for those outside of the US, he's a US congressman who just announced he is leaving the Congress because he's disappointed in the quality of the people in Congress.)

But Terry is obviously very frustrated; even though he has a join date of just 13 months ago, he's had such a hard time of it that it seems like three years to him. If he's got that hard of a time of dealing with the bullshit of the Internet, it's probably best for him that he does find better uses for his time. He'll be healthier for it.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, Terry.

I never did get to hear his Buddy Holly covers. I was looking forward to hearing them. Sorry you feel the way you do Terry. So long and keep on rockin'. Music is the spice of life, not forum's on't internet ;-)

Sniff, Sniff :( they grow up so soon, sniff, then fly away from the nest........

I tried telling him offline that posts on Internet forums have to be taken with a lot of salt...and tongue-in-cheek.
He's probably a real nice, mild-mannered guy with a well established pre-Internet communications mentality...so it's easy to be overwhelmed or even shocked by some of the attitudes if you take it too seriously.
It's like standing downtown in NYC/Chicago/LA...and being put-off by the weird diversity of people walking by.
You just have to learn to roll with it. :)

Sorry you go bothered enough to leave, Terry.
But you're right...you'll enjoy spending the extra time on recording.

Guess he's not a teacher! With all the noob questions and his knowledge...oh well...to each his own.
For people who can do and people that can't teach... Is that how the saying goes?

That's a good simile. It's funny, because I kind of thought of it as like a farm; it smells to high heaven because of all the manure, but if you can put up with the smell, there's fruit and veggies to be found as well.

Not everybody can put up with the smell, just like not everybody can put up with metropolitan life. I know personally for me, once my current family obligations are over, I'm outta here, both in real life and in cyberlife; I'm heading to the mountains where the air is clean and smells fantastic, unlike either the farm or the city. In the meantime I'll just breathe deep, get the most out of what places like this have to offer, and try and pay back with my own contributions as much as possible. It's not going to last much longer anyway; Internet 2.0 is thankfully dying; albeit a slow death, it's a death nonetheless.

A very unfortunate misconception about the profession I'm sorry to say.

Internet 2.0 is thankfully dying; albeit a slow death, it's a death nonetheless.
How do you figure that, Glen? I'm not challenging you, you may well be witnessing a trend in the US that we're still totally oblivious to in Central Europe.

I think he was trying to say Al Gore has predicted that global warming will fry what's left of cyber space.
