My coputer was getting progressively noisier - at one stage it was a noisy as the fridge - then noisier!
I tweaked, freaked, obliqued, slashed my way through the start up menu, the unwanted files, defragmentation, disk clean up, placement, disconnected external devices etc etc.
All to, you guessed it, - NO AVAIL!
Some days, & much noise later, a cable dropped down the back of the thing. I pulled it away from the wall & whilst on my knees noted some dust over the fan/air intake - some - rather more like a felt blanket really. I grabbed a brush & pan, gave the intakes a spring clean & shoved the thing back. When I booted up (yes, I was a good lad, shut down before poking about), the machine was
blissfully quiet
I'm SO stupid -the noise, it would appear - annecdotally - was from the fans obviously running ragged trying to suck in enough air to cool the machine & the machine running near collapse from the lack of cooling.
I may have learnt something!
