Here are couple mp3s from a few years back. This is my band, recorded live on a tascam 424 and mixed with a few guitar pedals for effects (reverb, delay)...

A couple known issues: Its pretty LOUD and hot due to the fact that I ran it through T-Racks to "master" it, before I really knew what I was doing, and there is probably a little too much compression on the whole mix, for some people's taste.

well, this went nowhere... so let's try this. I recently re-mixed some of these old tracks in n-track, plus I now have a decent pair of studio monitors to listen with... also, I think my ears are better, so would anybody care to comment on my new mix -vs- my original mix from about 2 years ago? better? worse? the same? thanks.

DISCLAIMER: the bass is an upright. the source signal is pretty bad, I really didn't have much to work with.

Sound pretty good :)

Although the vocal are way to soft. And even though the verb on the vocals helps the feel of the song, it also makes them less clear. That, together with the low vocal levels makes them very hard to hear let alone understand.

Pretty good...

What's a 424. I have a 234 and a 238 cassette.

Kick sounds really good... is it sampled

Motorhead seemed to be clipping

The 424 is a 4 track cassette Portastudio, newer than the 238, but similar I believe... the kick was mic'ed not sampled, the drums were all recorded to the same track with three mics. I think I got lucky on placement of the kick drum mic, if I remember correctly I had it pretty close to the beater head so there is a nice "click" went to tape.

I think Motorhead is clipping too. Like I said, I kinda screwed up the original mix in T-Racks, too much compression, a little too much low end too... I think I could do it much better now, too bad I don't have that software anymore...

Halion- the low vox thing, are you talking about the old mix or the new? Anybody else think the vox are too low? Is it an EQ issue rather than a volume issue?

Recording sounded crisp on that old Tascam 424. I still have mine and it served me well for many years. Recently bought the 2488.

I could only download wino.mp3. Had problems with connecting to the rest.

Drums sounded really clear. Couldn't hear the bass drum too well.
