I'm finally seeing progress!

MJ,
In that last pic of yours, I notice what appears to be a piece of pvc pipe and elbow attached to the window frame. What is that?

That holds the plans and the building permit so that when the inspectors come in they have a set of approved plans to look at as they do their inspections.
The PVC pipe holds the plans, the elbow keeps them from falling through.

some real progress. This is the only wall in the iso booth that's done.... as a matter of fact, it's the only complete wall in the studio! :D It came out so nice that I had to post it. It finally feels like something's being accomplished. The gaps between the wood seem a little uneven and distorted in the pic but in they're actually perfect. All said and done... I was 1/16" off from top to bottom on either side over an 8' wall. I used two identical pens to space them evenly.

Dig the LIVE romex hanging in the pic! Though it's live, it's more safe than it appears.

This one is of the soffit for the computer monitor. This is the first coat of mud. I chose to mount the screen this way because I'll barely use the computer. If I use it more in the future, it's close enough to incorporate into the main mixer set up. Later on down the road, if I want to change things around, I can modify the soffit to hold rack gear, modules, ADATs or whatever. It's gonna be great! You'll see. Here it is.

Here is the rack I built a while ago. I finally dug it out of storage. I'm going to modify it a bit before I actually use it again. The top area will be an additional 2 space racking area topped with a nice work/clutter area! All the gear was in my son's closet. Since he's gettin' old (16 months), he needs his space so I cleared out his closet. Don't worry, he'll be a gear junkie also.... see the pic on the next reply. There's more but I ran out of rack space on this one.

By the way... great progress Rushfan... everything is looking sweet!!!

Hey rushfan... how do you like those rackmount Line6 units I see in the top left of that rack?? What's the differences between the two?

Hey, that mud is still wet! :D

You have power?
What the.... I wish I had power. :(

All I have left for power hookups are the overhead lighting. That's it!

But.... all this talk about cables is making me do a little thinking! I hate thinking!:D I really like the idea that Steve had about being able to control things from the iso booth. Since I record myself a lot, that might be a great thing. I used more tape before because I had to allow myself 20-30 seconds of "running" time to get to to the booth, put the phones on and take a breath to start singing. On second thought, I need the exercise! :D
I used to hook up a headphone extention cord to my LRC but it would act up after a while.

now before anymore sheetrock goes up, I need to plan plan plan.

John

Looking good John... its coming along nicely.

And I hear you about hooking the LRC into your booth... I'm doing the same thing using a cuepoint over midi - recording myself in the booth is a nice feature, and as you pointed out, easy to do.

I can always "unpatch" it if others use my studio, as can you.

I see you're an adat man :)

I see you're an adat man

I was for a long time and then someone bought them from me on EBAY. The guy sent me the money and I sent him the ADATs but when they got to his door, he refused them on the spot without even opening the boxes. He then called me to say he's sorry but wanted to cancel the deal. The fucked up thing is that I lost an auction to him a couple of days later for an HD24.
I gave him the money back minus shipping and auction fees after I checked everything out and made sure all the parts were there.

So..... to make a long story longer......... yes, I am an ADAT man. :D

I've made some more modifications on my plan that I want to see what you all think. From the pic above (the elecrical panel), I was going to make that a soffit for a stereo, DVD etc.. Instead, I decided to use the bottom portion as a place to store guitars and basses that're in cases. I have to raise the bottom bar only about 1 1/2" but I think it would be good to use the space that way. I have 11 guitars and basses and I know they're not all going on the wall. I'll hang some on the wall and the rest can go in the space below. The top will still be used for a small TV.

Lastly, the Guitar Pod and Bass Pod will now be placed on the top section of the rack cabinet. I plan to put on a top surface as well.

John

Looking great, rush!!

I have a question for you guys, rush, frederic & Michael: each time I record vocals the singer complains that he/she can't see the arrangement on the computer screen. They said it would be much nicer if they could see the "arrangement window" in Logic (where all the individual tracks are color-coded), for example so they know what's coming up in the song. Does that make sense to you? Do you plan on having a little flat-panel monitor in the ISO booth that is hooked up to the DAW? I will start building my own studio next summer and I consider doing that ... whadayathink?

I guess the musicians and vocalists you work with don't know the material. Having a view into logic in the vocal booth isn't going to help them, they still don't know the material.

If you absolutely must do this, there are VGA splitters that allow you to keep your monitor for your DAW, and duplicate that screen in the vocal booth on an LCD VGA monitor.

I wouldn't do it though. I'd make 'em learn the material :)

I as going to have CCTV in my vocal booth and control room, but I ended up installing a window instead, so CCTV equipment was sold on ebay and that was that :)

That's right coz I usually record the songs and ask singers to come over and overdub vocals when my tracks are half-way finished :D

The VGA splitter is a good idea, I might get that, and install a little flat-panel monitor in the vocal booth. I like Rush' idea of integrating the flat-panel screen into the wall. Maybe I should load images of oceans and beaches on the screen so it looks like a window to an exotic bay :D
