If you need a mic for hip hop/rap, post your question in the rap beat forum. There are plenty of people over there(me included) that will be able to help you since we are in that music genre. See ya soon!

I htink he was trying to perform a community service, guiding rap vocalists to a sympathetic set of folks to help them out. There is a lot of anti-rap sentiment that must make it hard for those peeps to sort out useful info from the h8ers.

Daav

Exactly. I didn't mean anything negative by it. I just know alot of people get aggravated by their being 100 new "rap mic" threads a day in the microphone section. I just think that moving them to the rap beat section would cut down on aggravation. It seems like it would make more sense for them to ask people in the rap genre what mic to use for rap. I'm trying to help a little.

Excellent idea

Wish we could make this a sticky.

And it sounds so much better when a rap person invites them there than when a non-rap person tells them to go there.

Thank you, tone_aot.

Now if we could just point the newbies to the newbie section...

I applaud this and think it should be a sticky!

Then again, I think some people in the mic forum need to grow up! Enough bashing!!

That's the bad part about the music biz! No matter what style you are into or play or what you write, someone is going to hate it!

Fact of life, get over it!

"if you need a mic for rap"??

I didnt realize that they made a mic just for rap. If that is in fact the case...then it shouldnt be that hard to figure out which one to use for rap....just get the "rap" mic.

I'm not sure how to reply to this. I'm assuming you don't understand what i was trying to say. There have been way too many threads started in the microphone forum with the title "best mic for rap" or something of the sort. There is no best mic for rap, but i'm recommending they come to the rap beat section and ask people who are making rap music what mic to get. We make rap and we can recommend our mics based on experience. Although there is no guarantee of the same results, they will atleast share something in common with the person who is recommending the mic. Was that a little clearer? I know i don't explain myself very well sometimes so forgive me if i offended you or something.

chill chill chill

I'm fully aware of what you're saying Tone..................I embrace styles that don't float my boat just to see what I can gain.................I wrote a rap & my 60s blues loving father rapped it  that's how our associates felt.................nevermind I have a fair bit of hip hop/rap style stuff (method man & de la soul) are 2 that spring to mind & after listening...........it don't do it for me..........it's not my thing

anyway I'm glad to see your trying to guide the poor misshapened rappers to the "rap beats forum" as they seem to (rappers) get an awful bashing in ere'

anyway on a note of chill

take it easy

slidey :D

my only point is that just as there is not a "best" mic for rock vocals, or not a best mic for female folk vocals, and so on...I just dont see how there is a best mic for rap vocals. There are mics that better suit ones voice....even when rapping, your voice might sound better on an U87....Dr. Dre's might sound better on a AT4040. Most people wouldnt consider an sm57 as a best mic for rock vocals, but I like it on my voice, even though I have several "better" vocal mics. I just dont think people on another forum can help with this question any better than someone on this one....all you can do is recommend what you use...eventhough it might not be the best choice...

I once tried to start a "what's the best mic for polka," thread, and no one took it seriously.

Well, for starters, there was this time I was looking to do some serious polka. And I was in dire need of a mic stand. So I figured ... there has to be some mic stand out there -- and not just any mic stand -- that would be ideally suited for the intricacies of the polka genre of music.

So I started this thread here: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=150941&highlight=polka

And you can kinda' see where that one went.

Anyway, the next pressing problem was the processor for my DAW. You see, I just didn't feel that my processor was polka enough, ya know what I'm sayin'? So in my attempt to find the one computer processor I could upgrade to that would be most ideally suited to the digital signal processing demands of complex Polka DAW sessions, I proceeded to start this thread here: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=150940&highlight=polka

And I'm still waiting for some serious answers. And perhaps some of my new hip-hop friends like Tone will be able to clue me in on what kind of mic stands and processors they like to use for rap. Then I'll know what not to get. Ha ha. Just kidding, guys. I just don't want my delicate polka work to sound too "rap." That wouldn't sound right, so you see why I have to make sure I don't use the same mic stands as the rap guys.

I suppose I could be like the rap guys and start my own thread in the Polka forum ... but wouldn't you know it ? NO POLKA FORUM. I personally feel this is an outrage, and it's about high time I give a call to my dawgs at the ACLU and demand equal treatment and advancement opportunity for Polka lovers everywhere.

That's what i said in my last post jeremy. You must didn't read it. I know there is no best mic for rap. I said that we can just recommed what we use, even though the results are not guaranteed to be the same.

I think that makes this a useless thread.....unless you are just trying to get traffic to the other forum.....
