Whats the best RAP MIC??!
After doing some researching I saw that my DMP3 is not enough. I now need a sound card or a mixer. First off, I do not need both right? If i get something like a M-Audio Delta 66 then I don't need a Mixer, since my DMP3 is a relatively good pre. But, what do more people use and like as audio interfaces, Mixers, or sound cards? If I gave you around 200 bucks, what would you buy. I would like it to have enough outs to record a 5 piece drum microphone set. It would be used for simultaneous acoustic guitar/singing, and solo tracks also. Would you buy a Delta 1010LT? What is different between that and the Delta 66? Remember, its your opinion, so might as well force it upon me!

I would also be using XLR inputs in the DMP3 for condensers

I would try to spring for a sound craft m4. Can be had used for 350ish. I know its a bit more but worth it plus it can be used with spdif out. plus 4 channels are enough for the glynn mic technique. (and now for shameless promo) I have one I was about to post for sale I'd sell cheap, Just pm for info.

Hm..Is there any benifit to having a seperate pre, a mixer, and a sound card like a delta 1010lt? Like if i buy the delta should i still buy a mixer, even though I would have a sound card and a good pre?

Go to Ebay and buy a Delta 1010 (not the LT verision). Can be found for around $200. If you get the Lt version, you will have to deal with a bunch of adapters in order to plug in your mics. I always suggest using an outboard mixer. Sounds like extra steps, but it actually simplifies things.

Right. Well the thing is, I was thinking about getting an Alexsis I/O 26. Should I get this and the 1010 or would that be like a conflicting firewire/pci problem. Which is the best way to go on a 500 budget (Maybe less) if i need to record like 8 mics. I would only need 6 pre amps (I think) cause the DMP3 has 2 already that I could use. If i just got the TI chipset, would this work? What would be best?

I can get the I/O brand new full warranty for $275

I use the delta 1010lt as the center of my home studio (which is professional but relatively low budget I guess, considering I have a huge analog mixer and two racks of outboard and I often mix otb...). it works for protools and for my other daw work.

I love the 1010. the lt does suck for the dumb connectors, non lt is better, but used LTs if your lucky are like $120 each. and you can stack em in your machine for double the ins/outs.

instant bliss, super low latency, great sound. best deal in in/out joy imho. I prefer pci cards etc to firewire and usb for performance and reliability and latency.

cheers

Another 1010lt fan here. The rca jacks are a pain but a snake and a patchbay clear that up easily enough. I actually ran a Delta 1010lt and a Delta 44 in the same machine with no problems whatsoever.

Yeah. Thing is, I was thinkin about using 6-8 mics. Would I have to buy 3 of them or would the IO26 be better, or even the firepod

A lot of people here recommend the firepod (fp10)
