Tape Wolf
This is probably a bit on the weird side, but in case anyone's interested, this is a 22 minute episode of a webcomic-turned-radio-program which I've been working on for some time.

Originally I was doing this digitally, with the odd tape effect thrown in, but at the last minute I decided to switch to analogue for the final version, mostly so I could mix it via the mixing desk instead of in-the-box.
Nearly all the voices were contributed by others over the 'net, so the source material is largely digital (and a huge amount of digital noise reduction was used). Some of the music is all digital, some is a mixture and some of it is all-analogue (recorded to my stock of Zonal 675). 'Made using the wonders of an analogue and digital age' as I believe Radiohead put it.

The final version was recorded 8-track on Quantegy 407 (new old stock from '99) and mixed to Zonal 700. A mixture of digital, punch-in and razorblade editing was used - fun tricks included misusing the cue mode on the Revox to stop the music when the villain is interrupted, and a 5 metre tape loop of dripping sounds in the dungeon.

As I say.. this is fairly weird stuff and probably won't make a great deal of sense without following the comic strip. There are a couple of missing scenes and one alternate scene where a cameo character refused to let me have anyone else voice him (but then didn't provide his own recording).

So for those who are sufficiently interested:

I'm stuck on dial up for the time being, but being a fan of radio drama i listened to a bit and it was actually pretty cool.

Would love to hear the mp3 but it's impossible (currently) for me to download the huge file. The cartoons tho, look extremely cool! :D

Could you not use WGET or something to download it in pieces, though? That's how I used to do it.

WGET should be included on macos and Linux, for Windows there's one here:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gnuwin32/wget-1.10.1.exe?download

The command would be:
wget

..use ctrl-c to interrupt it, and for subsequent attempts use:

wget -c

..which will cause it to resume downloading from where it left off rather than starting again from scratch.

Maybe I could split it up using RAR or something.. I'd rather not have to edit it into chunks.

As for the coolness, I find the strip very inspiring, although it must be admitted that when you feed your muse on that kind of stuff, you end up writing very weird songs.

No, don't split it. I'll try to d/l it again using your suggestions. :)

Try GetRight, great software. I used to use it on dial-up to download 'large' (>2 MB or so) files, don't use it as much now but I did use it to download all of the Office 2007 and Vista betas from Microsoft; even on 2Mbps DSL it took a little while

I'll try that. Thanks Andrew! :)
